Trends in Creating Mobile Applications in 2021

In the era of almost complete dependence of our lives on new IT solutions, including such areas as the economy, banking or even health care, it is worth being up to date on what the user expects from a mobile application developer. As recent times have shown us, being a programmer you have to be ready for any eventuality.

One of the best-known applications, which was created in response to an urgent need, was the voting system for the Parliament of the Republic of Poland, which enables deputies to work remotely. There are also less extreme examples, such as the development of applications such as Pyszne.pl and Uber eats, which were created in response to the need of ordering and delivering food by phone. In turn, one of the most popular applications downloaded worldwide in 2020 was ZOOM – to be precise, it turned out to be the 4th most popular one, and only TikTok, Facebook and WhatsApp were ahead of it.

So the question arises: can something surprise us in 2021 and if so, what you should be especially careful about as a developer?

Usability as a trend in mobile application development?

Let's start with the fact that the mobile application should be integrated with the phone interface - for example, when the phone is foldable (this solution is more and more popular and has been used in such devices as Motorola RAZR, Sony Xperia F, or Samsung Galaxy Fold).

In addition, to create mobile applications, both those made for fun and those more "useful in life", it is good to use the latest information technologies available, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. This should be the determinant in designing new solutions. What else can be considered a trend in mobile application development in 2021?

Briefly speaking, machine learning is the type of application code that creates mathematical models that can be learned without direct user instruction. Some of the most popular mobile applications that use this technology are Snapchat and Google Maps. The implementation of such a solution significantly improves the quality of the application and improves user experience when using it.

Another technology that will surely gain popularity in 2021 is artificial intelligence. In some cases, choosing this technology is a benign investment when it comes to creating a good mobile app product. Artificial intelligence significantly reduces the time needed to complete repetitive tasks and, thanks to the algorithms used, it can personalize the integration with the user.

For example - we often come across automated customer service when using website applications. The technology used to create such a virtual advisor is precisely artificial intelligence. In addition, AI is extremely useful for examining all customer needs on an ongoing basis, which is important when we aim to create an online store application - for example, it increases the accuracy of the products suggested and offered to a given user.

5G - the trend that made Poles shiver

Any modern application that wishes to remain competitive and innovative should use the 5G network. The introduction of this technology to the commercial market was a real revolution. The speed offered by 5G allows you to transfer gigabyte files in a fraction of a second. This technology allows applications to display animations to the user in ultra HD quality and enables instant transfers, sending messages with attachments, purchases and much more.

In addition, developers claim that 5G connectivity will not only improve the performance of the applications or their integration with the users, but will also allow the full use of the potential of the latest technologies. For example, it will be useful equally in VR (virtual reality), when buffering movies and video games, or in more useful life aspects of mobility. 5G will also affect the growth of application technology based on the so-called cloud technology, thanks to which you can use a given app on several devices, without the need to transfer data using a USB flash drive or similar solutions.
